Cono Sur implements innovative irrigation system
To achieve this, ABB has worked — together with the HydroSCADA and the Cono Sur Sustainability Team — to create a system that best fitted the energy and water management of the winery’s technified irrigation system.
Cono Sur stands our for taking into account their economical, social and enviornmental impact as the company grows; implementing innovatine and replicable solutions to minimize it; specially when it comes to energy management, which has become a priority to the company.
The project started in 2015 with HydroSCADA — a Chilean engineering company focused on the control and management of energy and water for the industry — with the evaluation of the company’s energy management, particularly in the irrigation systems. The analysis found that the Cono Sur estate in Chimbarongo – which has 300 hectares – has different sectors, where the sizes of the systems vary, which implicate larger or smaller irrigation flows.
Therefore, it was decided to implement a change incorporating 2 frequency variators, developed by ABB. This innovative irrigation mechanism led to an improvement in water and energy efficiency and its friendly programming, makes it possible for operators to use it without difficulty.
On the other hand, the integration of the control and monitoring system is easy to use and can be operated from anywhere in the country. This equipment is designed to endure various meteorological conditions, such as low and high temperature, fog, rain, sun, etc., being very efficient for the climatic variations that the wine sector presents.
Thanks to the different actions implemented by Cono Sur in its energy management systems – among which are the frequency inverters – they obtained the Gold Medal in Energy Efficiancy delivered by the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Sustainability Agency, recognition that proves Cono Sur’s commitment to face environmental challenges and becoming a pioneer in sustainability matters.
